So what is the deal with the Paleo Diet? What do I think of this way of eating and is it good for you?

The Paleo diet or the caveman diet is simply adopting a way of eating that is similar to the way that our ancestors did, before humans began farming and processing food. This way of eating includes nutritious vegetables, fruit, nuts and seeds, healthy oils, fish, shellfish, poultry and game. It excludes dairy foods, grains, sugar, bad fats & oils and processed foods.

In the last 10 years the number of people sensitive to gluten has increased rapidly. Unfortunately the answer for a lot of people is to consume more packaged food that has been processed with a multitude of ingredients but excluding gluten.

The Paleo way of eating makes sense to me. Why not eat foods that our bodies are designed to digest? No diet is perfect for everyone but if you are curious it is worth giving it a try and see how it agrees with you.

Here is a sample of what a Paleo day could look like..

Breakfast:   almond pancakes with mixed berries

Lunch:         turkey and zucchini fritters, beetroot relish & green salad

Dinner:        eggplant lasagne and rocket salad

Snacks:       green smoothie, chocolate protein balls

Adopting a new way of eating takes a little bit of practice and organisation. Experiment with new vegetables that you haven’t used before. Add herbs and spices to your meats to give new and exciting tastes. Mix up interesting snacks that you can take with you.

Many inflammatory conditions can benefit from removing grain from the diet. Autoimmune disease, chronic inflammatory disease, IBS and digestive issues can be improved by a primitive way of eating. If you feel tired all the time and lack vitality then maybe it is worth giving Paleo a try.
