The simmering of the bones causes the bones and ligaments to release healing compounds like collagen, proline, glycine and glutamine that have the power to heal your body.
The broth also contains minerals that are easy for your body to absorb.
Try using bone broth in your recipes or a great habit to get into is having a large warm mug of bone broth instead of your afternoon coffee.
Here is how it is done….
HOMEMADE CHICKEN BONE BROTH
- 2 chicken carcasses
- 1 stick celery chopped
- 1 large carrot chopped
- Large handful chopped parsley
- 2 bay leaves
- 2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar
- 2 teaspoons sea salt
Preheat oven to 200°C. Place chicken carcasses on a baking tray and bake for 30 minutes.
Place chicken and remaining ingredients in a slow cooker and just cover carcasses with filtered water.
Cook on low for around 12 hours.
Strain broth through a muslin cloth or nut milk bag to remove bones & vegetables.
Store in fridge for around 5 days or freeze in small portions for several weeks.
Bone broth should turn into a thick gel once cooled and become liquid again once heated.
So grab some bones and get simmering…..
